The 24th Session of the UN Human Rights Council will be held in Geneva from September 9 to 27, 2013. The session will focus on the human rights situation in several countries including, the Central African Republic, North Korea, Sudan and Syria; and the finalization of resolutions on the Universal Period Reviews of Cuba, Russia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and others. It is yet to be determined whether recent human rights abuses in Egypt will be addressed. The session will also address important thematic areas such as the rights of indigenous people, safety of journalists, and children and armed conflict; and the renewal of the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and association. Elections will also be held for 7 of the 18 members of the HRC Advisory Council.
