The 26th Session of the UN Human Rights Council will run from June 10-27, 2014 in Geneva. It will focus on the human rights situation in several countries among them: Syria, Central African Republic, South Sudan, Belarus, Cote d’Ivoire, Eritrea and North Korea. Current High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay will deliver her final annual report before stepping down in August. High level panels and reports will focus on violence against women, trafficking, and a visit to China by the Working Group on discrimination against women in law and in practice; other topics include disability rights and safety of journalists. The mandates of a number of special rapporteurs are up for renewal including Special Rapporteurs on freedom of opinion and expression and trafficking.
