UN Human Rights Council session 34 convenes in Geneva from Feb 27-March 24, 2017. It opens with a high level segment where new UN Secretary General Guterres and other top officials will speak. During the session, the Council is expected to focus on the human rights situations in North Korea, Iran, Myanmar, Eritrea, Burundi, Syria, South Sudan, Libya, Ukraine, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan. There will also be an enhanced interactive dialogue on migrants on March 10, and reports from the Special Rapporteurs on Torture, on Cultural Rights, and on Freedom of Religion, and 18 other Special Procedures. Resolutions on the mandate of the Special Rapporteurs on Freedom of Expression, Torture, and Human Rights Defenders are also expected.
